Special Thanks to Noel Fielding

Mog, "Fielding Paints New Zappa Cover," The Velvet Onion, May 12, 2013

As all good Boosh fans will know, there are a number of connections between the boys and Frank Zappa. Well now there's another one!

Noel Fielding has painted the cover of a new 12" 45rpm (red vinyl) release of Zappa's Help I'm a Rock & Who are the Brain Police? Both tracks originally appeared on Freak Out!, the 1966 debut album from The Mothers of Invention.

The record is available to pre-order via Barfko-Swill for $16 [...]. Please note that they expect this item to ship the week of 4th July 2013, so if you order the record you won't receive it straight away. [...]

Frank Zappa's image has featured a number of times in Noel Fielding's paintings, so it's pretty special to see a tie-up between the creative output of the two artists like this.

MORE INFO

In October 2013, the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, recorded the music of composer Frank Zappa which he had originally scored for his cult-classic movie "200 Motels." This limited-edition, purple-colored 7" single contains the opening piece from the concert, "Overture" (from 200 Motels) and another gem from the Zappa canon on the B-side; the previously unreleased recording of "What's the Name of Your Group?" from the original score performed in 1971 by Zappa with the Royal Philharmonic.

MORE INFO

This Record Store Day release, in honor of Gail Zappa, reissues this 1969 single; remastered from original mono reels on 7" colored vinyl at 45 rpm in a picture sleeve, each individually numbered. This version is different from the one found on "Weasels Ripped My Flesh." Limited to 5200 copies. As a tribute to his father, Dweezil Zappa named his 1988 solo album after the song and also recorded of cover of it. The song has also been covered by Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson. But like the old saying "often imitated, never duplicated," there's nothing like the original that this 45 RPM represents.
