(Chee poppa doodly woppa)
The nonsense line "Chee poppa doodly woppa" is heard in "The World's Greatest Sinner" by Baby Ray & the Ferns and in "Plastic People" on Joe's Corsage.
"Just A Lonely Clown" (1957) by Huey "Piano" Smith has "doodly woppa", but no "chee poppa".
"Well I'll Be John Brown" (1958) by Huey "Piano" Smith has "chee poppa doodly woppa".
We can assume that FZ was familiar with "Well I'll Be John Brown," since he played the flipside "Don't You Know Yockomo" on KPPC-FM, 68/11/27.
Items 6A-8 from the original stereo 1/4 inch reel-to-reel 1964 or 1965 Live recording.
Joe speculates, based on similarity of sound, could be from the Broadside, Pomona, California.
Pre-Verve bar circuit original Mothers:
FZ—Guitar, Vocals
Ray Collins—Vocals, Tambourine, Harmonica
Roy Estrada—Bass, Vocals
Jim Black—Drums
Items 9-11 from the original mono reel-to-reel 7 1/2 ips tape.
More Mothers, possibly of Invention. More demos. Recorded between the Watts Riots and Freak Out!
Hello FZ guitar overdubs. Did FZ play all the guitar tracks? Quantum mysteriosis.
Band contents:
FZ—Guitar(s), Lead vocals
Ray Collins—Lead Vocals
Roy Estrada—Bass
Jim Black—Drums
Elliot [said he] didn't play on any pre-Freak Out! Mothers recordings.
